Who Do You Want to Look Like?

Introduction:

If you had an opportunity to look like anyone in the world, who would you choose? Movie star? Musician? Politician? Many people have spent a whole lot of money to look like other people. Yet, there is someone that we should all strive to look like. Someone with qualities so pure and righteous that many people fall short of acquiring. How do we look like God?

I. We Are to Reflect God’s Qualities

A. Disciples are to be religious for two reasons.

1. They are a part of His family – Matt. 5:9

a. God seeks to make peace with all men.

b. God’s children are peacemakers because they reflect God’s desire for peace.

2. As His children, they are to reflect God’s qualities – Matt. 5:44-45

a. We are to reflect God’s qualities even when they are the most difficult to attain.

B. For some in the audience, the above thoughts would be considered an impossibility.

1. The Jews were certain that they were God’s children.

2. For some time the Jews religion consisted of things they could check off of their list.

II. We Must Reflect God’s Qualities

A. Christians sometimes have trouble distinguishing themselves from those of the world.

1. In our desire to fit in with those around us, we sometimes become like them.

a. The problem is that we are often the ones that are changed. I Cor. 15:33

2. The problem in all of this is ultimately we have a desire to live like those around us.

B. What do people see in you when they look at you?

1. God said we are to be holy… 1 Pet. 1:16

2. The key to success is found in protecting our minds from the filth of the world. Matt. 15:15-20

Conclusion

A. There is more to being spiritual than just going down the checklist making sure we do everything God has commanded us.
