What You Need to Know About Wicca
Introduction:
Our country is
quickly abandoning long held spiritual principles. What is Wicca? Is it a problem somewhere else, or is
it affecting us locally?
I. What is Wicca?
- Gary Cantrell: (A Wiccan author) Wicca is based on harmony with nature
and all aspects of the god and goddess divinity.
- Wiccans accept the fact that all life is sacred:
plant, animal, and human.
- They deny moral absolutes – believe that
nature is divine & seek to be in harmony with earth and nature.
- Wicca is officially recognized by the US
government.
II. A brief history of Wicca.
- There is no official Wiccan tradition.
- Wicca came from pagan traditions out of agrarian
societies – where the environment had a profound effect on survival.
- An additional aspect of the religion deals with
women.
- Religion has been mainly practiced in secret
– and still is today.
- Gerald Gardner is attributed to starting a
common brand of Wicca that is practiced today.
- Gardner’s brand of Wicca was brought to the US
in the early 1960’s.
- Wicca is not considered a cult anymore. It is
considered a valid societal religion.
III. Basic Wiccan beliefs and worship practices.
- Wiccan worship is always polytheistic and
practiced in small groups called covens.
- Sabbats are described as holidays that celebrate
the male energy of the “All”, which is represented by God and the Sun.
- Esbats are celebrated once/month depending on the phase of the moon.
- Wiccans believe there is both a goddess and a god.
- Wiccan Magik involves symbols, alters, candles,
tarot cards, crystals, and stones.
IV. What Wicca is NOT:
- It is not Satanism.
- Wiccans do not offer blood sacrifices or
practice orgies.
- Do not intentionally cast spells on people to
harm them.
V. Why is Wicca so attractive?
- Wicca is growing. Said to be 2nd fastest growing religion in
US after Islam.

Changing media perceptions. Movies, television, magazines,
internet.
- Why is Wicca so attractive?

It is attractive for those who do
not desire or appreciate absolute truth.
- Think of how this religion appeals in the
postmodern world.

Today, moral absolutes are
disparaged & statements of truth are doubted.

Wicca is the religion of nature
worship.
VI. A biblical response to Wicca.
- There is absolute truth. Wicca denies it.

Scripture says that God is the one
who constructs human reality – not humans themselves. Acts 17:24-31.
- Christianity celebrates the death and
resurrection of Jesus as a historical event. 1 Corinthians 15. Wiccans celebrate and worship the creation.
Conclusion:
- John 14:6 – here is an absolute truth we
need to share with the world.
- Do you need to come to Christ?
