Revelation 4: Inside the Throne Room

Introduction:

Rev. 4:1-11. Have you ever seen something that makes your jaw drop?  Perhaps it’s a scene of mountains, a beautiful sunrise/sunset or maybe an action that is truly unbelievable.  In Rev. 4, the throne room scene is one such situation.  While the meaning of it is often lost in the aura of Revelation, we must remember this picture is meant to invoke thoughts of comfort and calm.  As John begins to unveil the Revelation, he sets out to establish one thing: God is God and He is in control!

I.               4:5-11 - The Throne Room

A.    Activities from the throne

1.     4:5a - Lightning and thunder

2.     4:5b - Seven lamps of fire before the throne

1.     Represent the 7 spirits of God; unity

3.     4:6a - Sea of glass (crystal)

4.     4:6b - Four creatures – seen in 4:7

B.    4:8-11 - Activities around the throne

1.     4:8 - The living creatures do not cease to praise God.

1.     4:9 - Each one having six wings and full of eyes; do not cease day and night to praise God.

2.     4:10-11 - The 24 elders also do not cease to praise God.

1.     Casting their crowns and falling down to worship.

II.             Two Main Points to Learn

A.    God is an awesome God – Ps. 111:9; 68:35

1.     No matter what is going on God is still/always in control.

2.     4:11 - Those around the throne recognized a fact often missed by those of today.

1.     Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:20 - The very creation of God’s screams of His existence and power to create.

B.    4:11; John 4:23-24 - God is worthy of our worship

1.     While collective worship is not the only way one can/should worship God, it remains an important part of the Christian’s life.

1.     The created beings refuse to “take a break” from offering praise and worship to God.

2.     Sometimes wonder what some think about praising and worshiping God on a continual basis.

2.     Due to His continuing ability to control and influence circumstances in today’s world, it should give us hope that our struggle on earth will be worth it. (See Rev. 2:10.)

3.     When you consider your worship to God, what do you see?

1.     Your love of God is reflected in the way you worship.

Conclusion

A.    We truly do serve an awesome God, One who is concerned and watchful of His children.

B.    Are you serving Him tonight?
