We Have a Savior

Introduction:

Today: conclude the Reasons to Rejoice Series. There is nothing greater than the story of Jesus Christ & His saving us from sin! I love to tell the story. Oh…the love manifested for us on the cross! Lk. 12:10-11; Mt. 1:20-21 What was the mission of Jesus? Talk of how we are saved by His death and how we are saved by His life.

I.      We are saved by His death.

A.     The Savior was born to die.  Acts 2:23

1.     Jesus knew He was born to die.   Mt. 16:21; 17:22-23; 20:17-19, 28

2.     John 12:27 – week of His death…the hour…was His death.

B.     Who did Jesus die for? John 3:16; 1 John 2:1-2 – the world.

1.     Anyone can be saved through His death.

2.     Everyone has the opportunity to come to the Savior.

3.     Only those who obey the gospel will be saved. 2 Thess. 1:6-8; Mk. 16:15-16

II.    Jesus is the propitiation for our sins.

A.     Heb. 2:17 - Propitiation means to “render favorable.”

B.     Jesus is the propitiation that turns away God’s wrath!

C.    Propitiation is something that God initiates and does so out of love.

1.     Rom. 5:6-8 – amazing and awesome piece of scripture.

2.     Rom. 5:9-10 – it is Jesus’ death that satisfies God’s divine justice.

D.    There are conditions to this propitiation through Jesus.

1.     Mk. 16:15-16 – we are saved when we believe & are baptized.

2.     Rom. 6:3-5 – we are saved when united with Jesus in baptism.

3.     Heb. 5:9 – Jesus is the author of salvation to all who obey Him.

III.  We will be saved by His life.

A.     Rom. 5:10. How?

1.     1 John 2:1 – Right now…He stands ready to be an advocate.

2.     1 Tim. 2:5 – He is our Mediator.

3.     Heb. 7:25 – He lives to make intercession for us.

B.     Heb. 7:25 – NKJV: save to the uttermost.

1.     Rom. 8:24 – Christians were saved.

2.     1 Cor. 15:2 – Christians are being saved.

3.     Eph. 2:5, 8 – Christians have been saved.

4.     Rom. 5:9-10 – Christians shall be saved.

C.    Because of Jesus, we shall be saved. Wholly, completely, and forever more!

Conclusion:

A.     1 Cor. 15:55 – through Jesus we can be delivered from the fear of death.

B.     1 John 4:17-19 – Through Jesus we can be delivered from the fear of judgment.

C.    1 Thess. 1:10 – Through Jesus we will be delivered from the wrath to come.

D.    Heb. 4:15-16 – Through Jesus we have confidence that as long as we humbly serve Him, we will be saved.
