You Presume Too Much
Introduction:
How
often have you been accused of or been the victim of the above? Presuming too much of people is a
problem for many people, including Christians. Perhaps it’s due to the mindset of society in which we always
look for the worst in people. It causes friendships to dissolve and feelings to
be hurt. What makes us operate this way?
I. What
Does It Mean to Act Presumptuously?
A.
Presume
– “to take for granted, assume or suppose.” (Webster)
1.
In our
vernacular, it means to think you know what someone will say or why they act in
a certain way.
B.
Some
situations where we can act presumptuously.
1.
With
our co-workers
2.
In our
marriage
3.
With
our brethren
4.
With the Lord
A.
Mt.
15:15-20 - The heart is the beginning point for all we say and do.
B.
It is a
matter of thinking we can read the hearts of those involved.

1 Cor.
2:12-13 - The only one who knows the thinking of a man is his spirit.

Often
it’s our own heart condition that causes us to act this way.

Don’t
assume the worst in people
1.
Some
only see the negative in things, especially in people.
2.
We must
be willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially our brethren.
C.
Don’t
wear our heart on our sleeve

may have.
