It’s A
Life!
Introduction:
Since abortion
was legalized, over 40 million abortions have been performed in this
country. For perspective, consider
the number of dead in six major wars (Rev., Civil, WWI &II, Korean,
Vietnam): 1,160,591. Over half of
all abortions are performed on women under the age of 25. Why is this topic important? What does the Bible say?
I.
Controlling
the Language.
A.
Controlling
the language of an argument can have a numbing effect upon others.
B.
Those in
the womb are no longer referred to as “children” but rather “viable tissue
mass,” “fetus,” “embryo,” etc.
1.
Bible
uses same word to describe both born & unborn children.
2.
OT Ben
(Bane) – Gen. 25:21-22; 37:3; NT Brephos – Lk. 1:44; 2:16
3.
In what
man calls a fetus, embryo or viable tissue mass, God says it’s a child!
II.
There Is
Life Before Birth.
A.
An unborn
baby has characteristics that make it human.
1.
Has
breath of life. Gen. 2:7; Lk. 1:41
2.
Possesses
a spirit. Eccl.
12:7; Is. 49:1; Lk. 1:15
B.
Bible
indicates life before birth. Needs to be respected. Ex.
21:22-25
III.
Abortion
Is the Taking of Life.
A.
Because
there is life before birth, abortion is murder.
1.
Murder
– taking of innocent life.
2.
Murderers
– no part in the kingdom. Rev. 21:8; Prov. 6:17
B.
No one
has the right (regardless of personal rights) to take the life of another.
1.
The issue
is not about “a woman’s right to choose”; it’s about the life within.
IV.
Human
Attributes of Babies.
A.
Progression
of baby’s growth.
1.
At
conception baby has own genes – will develop into own person.
2.
18th – 25th day baby’s heart begins to beat circulating its own
blood supply.
3.
40th-42nd day brain waves can be recorded on an EEG machine.
4.
9-10
weeks baby begins to squint, swallow & move tongue.
5.
10-11
weeks all major organs present and operational.
6.
20 weeks
(5months) baby can survive on its own, outside of the womb.
B.
Does this
sound like a blob of tissue or something with God-given breath inside?
V.
A Battle of Rights
A.
Issue
before us is not who is control of a woman’s body or choice.
1.
It is
recognizing the poor choice that puts her in this situation.
B.
We would
never allow a woman (or man) mutilate themselves or perform activities that
would cause bodily harm.
1.
Why do we
allow the taking of a life that God has created in His image? Jn. 4:24
VI.
Conclusion
A.
Abortion
is nothing short than the taking of innocent life and therefore sinful.
