A God Saturated Life
Introduction:
What do we mean by the term God saturated? We are talking about the
person who is fully devoted to God, a person w/a high view of God. Living a God
saturated life means having a heart that is one with God. David is the perfect
role model for a God saturated life. Although he not perfect – we see a
passionate man who sought God’s heart. He possessed a lofty view of God &
knew the fullness of God’s favor upon his life. What is our view of God? Psa. 5
– some say this written on 2nd morning after David’s flight
from Absalom. This psalm provides a model for us in how we are to live truly
for God & count as less important our desires/wants.
I. 5:1-3 – David’s contrition
A. 5:1-2 – Consider my groaning...
1. Have we ever been in situation where words could not adequately express our grief? Rom. 8:26-27
B. 5:3 – Before David could begin the day – he had to converse w/God.
1. He prays w/confident expectation.
2. We also need this confidence – Js. 1:6-8
II. 5:4-6 – David’s conviction
A. 5:4 – David understood God’s holiness.
B. 5:5 – God rejects all sin & sinners.
1. No sin will go undetected by God’s searching eyes. Heb. 4:13
C. 5:6 – and so, God judges sinners as an expression of His holiness.
D. It’s OK to pray for justice to be done. See Rom. 12:18-19.
III. 5:7-8 – David’s consecration
A. Sinners can find acceptance w/God if they approach Him on God’s terms.
1. 7a – God will unconditionally forgive sinners who repent & believe.
2. 7b – David trembled because he recognized he approached God solely on the basis of God’s grace.
3. Same for us. We are unworthy. We are stained & dirty with sin.
B. 5:8 – we see David’s commitment to seek divine guidance in doing God’s will.
IV. 5:9-10 – David’s condemnation
A. He condemns his enemies. 5:9
B. We too can suffer from vicious attacks from the ungodly. Mt. 5:10-12; John 15:18-20. 5:10 – David calls out for their destruction.
C. Driving issue in David’s heart was not his enemies’ opposition against him – but their rebellion against God!
V. 5:11-12 – David’s celebration
A. David’s high view of God led to high praise for the Lord.
1. Despite our troubles; we can overflow w/excitement in God!
B. 5:12 – David had every reason to rejoice in the Lord – no matter how fiery his trials had been!
1. 12b – God will surround us w/His favor so that we can be safe from the enemy.
