Introduction:
A. The pretrial and trial of Jesus is well known by Christians and rightly so.
1. Through the contents of the gospel accounts we all easily can become witnesses to the conviction/punishment of our Lord.
2.
The title and
core of tonight’s lesson is built around Pilate’s’ question in Mt. 27:22
– what shall I do with Jesus?
B. In the beginning of tonight’s lesson we will look at the progression of the trial itself. Then we will make application to what we can/can’t do with Jesus today. We’ll be sure to look at the 4 gospels to take the story in detail.
C.

arrested and taken to high priest…

5. Lk. 23:11; Mt. 27:11-25 – sent back to Pilate
a) Here Pilate puts the decision to the people saying: What shall I do with Jesus?
b) Instead of releasing innocent Man – of which he admitted that Jesus was – he allowed Jesus to be put to death.
D. Look again at question in 27:22.
1. These words fell from lips of Pilate & these very same words have been ringing throughout the ages of time – even today!
2. Men have been answering His question in various ways.
3. Will spend time tonight looking at ways some answer the question.
I. Crucify Him.
A. This = the cry of the Jewish people yelling at Pilate.
1. 23:23 – Pilate’s question – “what evil has he done?”
2. 23:24-25 – people didn’t care.
B. It = pleasure of some to crucify the cross of Christ!
1. One destroy His word.
2. Heb. 10:26-31 – those who continue in sin willfully crucify the Lord afresh.
3. His death – like Pilate – means nothing to them!
II. I’ll Sell Him – Mt. 26:14-16
A. This the mindset of Judas.
1. 30 pieces of silver – legal price for a slave – betrayed Jesus.

2. Family, friends, disciples all fled. Scared for their own selves. Others left because His teaching too hard to handle.
B. Acts 4:11 – Became the cornerstone rejected by man.

2. Not crucified themselves yet.
C. Acts 4:12 – if we reject Him – we forsake our own hope!
V. I’ll postpone my decision.
A. Acts 24:24-27 – note actions/words of Felix.
B. Procrastination = a thief of time & proved to be such for Felix.
