I. Introduction:

A.  Come Unto The Lord - Matthew 11:28-30

1. Man's greatest need is salvation.

a.     Psalms 79:9; 85:9

b.  Isaiah 59:1-2

2.  As a result of God's love, Jesus came into the world - Hebrews10:7-9

3.  He came to save sinners - Matthew 1:21; Luke 19:10;

a.  1 Timothy 1:15

B.  The Law could not  free one from bondage - Hebrews 10:1;   

1.  Galatians3:10

2. God's plan meant a change of  law

a.  Matthew 5:17; Ephesians 2:14

b. The Old Law was temporary Jeremiah 31:31-34

c. It served man through instruction  -  Romans 7:7

d. It served Israel as a  "schoolmaster"

1.  Galatians 3:24-28

3. Christ was the end of the law - Romans 10:4

a. National Israel was overcome with jealously - Matthew 9:34;                                             10:18,25; John 8:40

b. They did not want to recognize  Jesus as the end of the Law                                       (Acts15:1; Galatians 2:11-15).   

4. The wretchedness of man under the law is seen in Romans 7:24.

 

II.  The Invitation Involves Something On Our Part.

A. Man must come unto the Lord (v.28).

1. Requires effort  and diligence - 2 Timothy 2:15

a.  Hebrews 11:6

2. Must be drawn to the cross John 6:45; John 12:32; 1 Cor.1:18

a. As Jehovah called Noah into the Ark (Genesis 7:1), Jesus calls all                                   into His church. We must answer the call.

b. How are we called?  Called through the gospel - 2 Thessalonians 2:14

1.  answered through obedience 1 Peter 3:21.

B. We must take and wear the Yoke of Christ (v.29).

1. A yoke is simply a coupling device connecting two items together.

a.     The Old Law was like the taskmasters of Egypt - Exodus 1:11

b.    in the sense that it was unendingly laborious. - Galatians 3:10

c. Christ's yoke requires great righteousness - Matthew 5:20

2. The doctrine of Christ is His yoke.

a.     He is willing to put it on us, we must reach out and take it. 

1.  Romans 10:17; 1:16-17; Mark 16:16

b. Requires compliance Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 5:8-9

3. If worn, He will pull us to heaven.

a. Christ owns the yoked 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

b. Coupled to a new life  2 Corinthians 5:17

c. Joined to better promises Titus 1:1-2

C. Affords rest ( vs.28-29).

1. None under the Old Law, salvation is in Christ  2 Timothy 2:10; Galatians 3:27

2. Notice the word "now" in Romans 8:1.

 

III. Conclusion

A.   The promise remains for the faithful Hebrews 4:1; Revelation 14:13.

1.  All alien persons are under bondage (Romans 3:23), and release  (rest) can only be found by seeking, taking, and wearing the yoke of Christ.

 

IV. Invitation

A.   If you are not wearing the Lord's Yoke this evening, won't you accept His invitation?

1.    Won't you come to Him Hebrews 11:6; Romans 10:10,

2.    repenting of your sins (that which has shackled you to death).

3.    If you  are willing, we will help you put on the yoke of Christ                         through baptism (Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:27; Romans 6:3).
