What is Faith?

 

            1. Is it a drug, food, or conviction?  Hebrews 11:1

            2. King James Bible says it is a substance.

            3. American Standard Bible says it is a conviction.

            4. Jesus said it is the work of God.  Jn. 6:29

 

How Do We Recieve Faith?

 

1. Samaritians believed Phillip's preaching.  Acts 8:12

            a. Phillip preached, they heard, believed, and baptized.

2. Many Corinthians heard, believed, and were baptized.  Acts 18:8

            a. Paul preached, they heard, believed, and baptized.

3. Gentiles heard the Gospel and believed.  Acts 15:7

            a. Peter preached, they heard, believed, and were baptized.

4. Romans recieved faith by hearing word.  Romans 10:17

            a. This truth confirmed by examples given.

 

How do we confess our faith?

 

1. Some do by signing a card.

2. Some do so by standing up and holding up hands.

3. Bible says it's from heart, by word of mouth.  Romans 10:9‑10

4. You must hear words, believe words to confess words.

 

How do we Demonstrate our faith?

 

1. Demonstrate means to prove by action.  James 2:17, 26

            a. must be "Obedience of faith." Romans 1:5, Acts 6:7

2. Demonstrate by works.  Gal. 5:6, 1 Cor. 7:19; Romans 16:26

3. Believers were added to the Lord.  Acts 5:14.

            a. What the believers did: Acts 2:37‑47

            b. They heard preaching, believed, repented and baptized, and then

                 added to the church.  Acts 2:47

            c. Faith can be seen.  Mark 2:5; James 2:18

 

 

 

 

How Many degrees in faith?

 

1. A degree is a step.  This is as defined by Webster.

            a. We are to walk in the steps of the faith of Abramham.  Romans 4:12.

2. Little Faith.  Matt. 6:30; 8:26; 14:31; 16:8

3. Great Faith.  Matt 15:28; 8:10; Luke 7:9

            a. Little faith wavers and fails.  Matt 14:31

            b. Great faith works and suceeds.  Luke 7:9

 

What are the benefits of faith?

 

1. Purifies the heart.  Acts 15:9

2. Justifies the soul.  Romans 5:1; James 2:24

3. Christ dwells in our hearts by faith.  Eph. 3:17
